You have to hand it to Black Country firm Lawnswood Fencing. They know how a traditional approach to creating high quality, handcrafted fencing panels can pay dividends!
Founded in 1972 and based in Halesowen, Lawnswood Fencing employs around 20 and is currently run by Managing Director Tony Foster, co-founder Roger Cowley, wife Christine Cowley and daughter Sarah Cowley.
Sarah commented: “One of the questions I’m asked frequently is how we got our name and it is simply down to the fact that when we started we used to carry out landscaping work, including laying lawns and also dealt with wooden fencing. Simple but true!
“Lawnswood Fencing was started back in 1972 by my father Roger and grandfather Fred. They decided, after numerous requests, to set up a facility where the fence panels they manufactured for their own use could also be bought by others. Back then they would make the panels at the end of the working day and at weekends that were needed to fulfil their own work commitments and began selling the excess to the local trade.
“They soon became inundated with orders due to the quality of their panels. This resulted in doubling the manufacturing capabilities by producing a second panel jig, which in turn led to employing manpower to operate it. 45 years on and not only has production soared but we’ve developed a sales facility and introduced a delivery service to cope with ever-growing demand.
“Technology has come on in leaps and bounds but all our own fence panels are still individually laid up by hand and fixed using nail guns. No automated panel master machines in site!
“As a Company both service and dedication to our customers have always been the main driving force right from its inception to the current day. We pride ourselves in offering a quality service from enquiry through to the end product, whether that be an in-store purchase, kerb-side delivery or a fully fitted fence.
“We have only been dealing with Koppers Performance Chemicals for around 12 months and are liaising closely with them in relation to the improvement of our treatment facilities.
“We are still a local family business that’s fortunate enough to enjoy the loyalty of our customers, many of whom have returned to us several times over the years. We are very much aware of that and always seek to provide the best possible customer service,” concluded Sarah.
It’s clear that Lawnswood Fencing’s focused, hands on approach has contributed to the success of their business.
