INNOVATIVE ‘SCREEN FROM VIEW’ SECURITY FENCING FOR SHEFFIELD CUSTODY SUITE
When the new Sheffield Custody Suite opened in April 2016 it became a model for all future custody suites in terms of compliance, sustainability, design and procurement.
Designed and procured through the Scape Group’s Major Works framework, the £14 Million project was completed on time and on budget by Willmott Dixon.
Two years on from its opening, CLD Fencing Systems revisited the project to see how its unique Privacy Security Fencing has stood the rigours of day to day life in SouthYorkshire’s busiest custody suite. Work on the project was completed by CLD Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) Member Davison Fencing.
One of the key challenges of the project was the creation of a fencing system that not only offered LPS 1175 SR1 and Secured by Design accreditation, but could also provide 100% ‘Screen from View’.
The final system was based on the Securus SR1 LPS 1175 Mesh Fencing System but using all the aspects of the ScreenFence solution. Using Vertical polyethylene (PE) UV Stable and Weatherproof Woven Inserts. The system gives 100% screen from view aspects to every panel and any angle of view.
Whilst it has been exposed to all the elements South Yorkshire can throw at it, the panels remain in first class condition with zero damage to any of the weaves. A member of South Yorkshire Police Facilities Management Team said “We have experienced no issues with any of the fencing on the site. It has allowed the creation of a fully screened movement area and unloading zone for ‘guests’ whilst maintaining privacy and safety for the officers and those in transit.”
