CHARLTONS GATES & FENCING – QUALITY INGRAINED
Seven years ago, Charltons undertook a major rebranding and since then
the company has continued to build upon this. Charltons have held Her Majesty the Queens Royal Warrant since 2000 and have supplied Royal Estates including Sandringham and Windsor for over
In late 2015 Charltons were
very privileged to supply some bespoke architect designed gates to Buckingham Palace. The company’s Sales Director, Matthew Charlton says “This was a great honour and something the company is very proud of.” They have also supplied the National Trust, Westonbirt Arboretum and of course Glastonbury Festival – woodchips are an essential component for a wet festival!
Charltons has of course been around much longer than the last
7 years – totting up a lengthy 116 years in the Timber Industry. It is a fifth-generation family business with eight members of the family over three generations currently in the business today including Tony “AJ” Charlton who is in his 75th year at the company. Charltons has seen many changes over the years, more recently the installation of a completely
new manufacturing system, which inevitably came with its challenges, but the company is now in a strong position for future growth.
Using CNC machines, the company combines the latest technology with traditional joinery skills to produce high quality gates. Charltons are proud members
of Made in Britain; a fast-growing community of like-minded manufacturers from all around the UK. By applying the Made in Britain collective mark to products Charltons are making it clear to consumers they manufacture to the very highest standards in the UK.
This year Charltons are adding to their comprehensive range of gates with the launch a new gate design. “The Farleigh”. Named after a local village, the Farleigh is an elegant gate which will be offered in hardwood in
a superior 66mm section size. This impressive gate will certainly add that important “Front of House” aesthetic to any property.
As well as having FSC® and PEFC Accreditation Charltons is also accredited with Grown in Britain. Charltons Fencing and Landscaping products are manufactured using British Grown Wood. Grown in Britain is creating new sustainably-managed woodland to increase the supply of British timber destined for use by local people and businesses. The opportunities and the benefits of Grown in Britain are endless not just for the environment, but for people, wildlife, and our local economies.
Sustainability and the environment are important to Charltons; nothing goes to waste. By-products are recycled from manufacturing processes; sawdust to local farmers, offcuts for firewood and an onsite partnership supplying Green Forest Renewables with woodchips for Biomass fuel. Rustic Sleepers, a product
launched by Charltons a few years ago, continue to be a very popular product and are being sold by more and more of their network of stockists across Country. Superior to cheaper made alternatives, these are made using durable Redwoods as well as being pressure treated. They are a very versatile Landscaping product. Give Charltons a call on 01373 821521 to find out details of their latest Rustic Sleeper Offer – from just £9.95 per sleeper! Charltons also offer a range of high quality French oak sleepers.
Charltons believe in a partnership strategy with their customers; providing with a huge array of support including a comprehensive website, online stockist pages, training,

The latest addition for 2019 is
a new gate display stand. Taking
up very little floor space the simple stand helps display some of Charltons more popular products The stand is ideally for use inside but will come pressure treated so it can be used externally as well.
This is already proving popular. This stand will complement the See and Sell gate stand which has been in use for a few years now and offers a full range of pedestrian gates in as little as just over 1m square of floor space.
Charltons continue to supply containers of 5 Bar gates to Westbury Gates in Australia. One of their customers bought a pair of Somerset gates. He was really pleased to secure them because good gates
are hard to find in Tasmania. He
was concerned about how the bars are, for his purposes, a little too far apart saying that he was worried
that Wallabies would be able to slip through. However; an easy solution was available. The 6 Bar Somerfield is now on his list gates to purchase!
