OCTOPOST: THE SWEDISH CREOSOTED FENCING SOLUTION

Loughwood Ltd, a family-run company based in Northern Ireland, has been importing the Octoposts into Ireland for twenty years.

In recent years, Loughwood has appointed two main distributors in the UK to bring the Octopost to market. The distributors then place the Octoposts with well-known merchants, getting the posts direct to the agricultural market.

J F Supplies is a family-run business based in Aberdeenshire. As well as their distribution business, it is a large-scale farm, and they know first-hand how important it is to have the right fencing for their farm.

Davies, another family-run business with two sisters at the helm, is based in Carmarthenshire and has a wide range of clients and products on offer. They are dedicated to improving the farming industry with good-quality products to ensure value for money.

Loughwood Company Director Claire Cosgrave explained:
“The creosoted Octopost fencing posts are manufactured from redwood timber grown in Sweden in or near the Arctic Circle, which gives added strength due to its very slow rate of growth. The timber grown is PFSC certified, which means that the forest is guaranteed to be replanted.

“Trees are carefully selected and harvested before heading to Octowood in Kälarne, Northern Sweden. The posts are machined, kiln-dried, and pressure-treated with creosote. Octopost offers a 25-year guarantee, but the posts have a life expectancy of 30–40 years.

“Octoposts are used extensively throughout Europe in the agricultural and equestrian markets and have revolutionised the fencing with a solution that is stronger and faster to install but also delivers longevity.”

“The main benefits of the shape are transportation and storage. The posts are more securely bundled due to the flat edge and therefore less likely to move during transit.

“Another major advantage is having a flat surface, which makes stapling the wire easier. As well as being unique and easily identified. You know what you are buying with an Octopost.

“The rail has a half-octagonal profile; therefore, the completed fence is very pleasing to the eye.

“The rails are available with a 4.2m length and have an overlapping joint. This makes erecting the fence far simpler as the rail ends do not have to join on the post.

“We are actively looking for new stockists for the Octoposts. Please contact one of us for further details,” added Claire.
