PermaGroup – made up of brands that provide long-term solutions to ageold problems, such as super-strong, maintenance-free metal fencing solution PermaFence and high-quality artificial grass PermaLawn – celebrated the most successful year in its history in 2020, after maximising the effect the lockdowns had on the DIY market, as well as quickly diversifying in the face of the global pandemic.
From adding new products to its portfolio and launching a new rewards programme, to working with modular companies for the first time and supporting four emergency NHS projects, the company’s 20th year in business was certainly one to remember for plenty of positives as opposed to the overarching presence of Covid-19.
Managing Director AdrianButtress attributes the success of the past year to a fast response to coronavirus, investment in an already solid team, and diversification of new services and products.
He said: “The key thing we’ve taken from 2020 is to never stop learning and adapting, and it’s been fantastic to see the sector working in new ways we didn’t think were possible before.
“For example, speaking tocustomers and placing orders through Zoom was unthinkable – but it works. It means the team is saving around 60 hours of travel time per week, which can now be channelled into supporting customers; not to mention reducing carbon.
“I’d love to think that these more efficient ways of working will continue as well as the sector seizing other opportunities to grow and learn.”
The year ended on a high following several record months, including a 26% increase in sales in May 2020 compared to 2019 and a staggering 86% increase when comparing June 2019 to 2020.
2021 is set to be just as exciting for Adrian and the team as they are beginning a new venture by expanding into the commercial sector. This has included the recruitment of an experienced national commercial manager to lead a brand-new division of the company.
Adrian added: “After hitting our 20-year-old company milestone and with a record year in 2020, we were ready to expand our offering. The next logical step was to use our knowledge and move into the commercial sector – further increasing our portfolio of providing permanent solutions to age-old problems.
“While I think the sector is in for another turbulent year, I firmly believe we’re better prepared and in a much stronger position. Once something as close to normality resumes, I think we’re in for a large boom of business. I’m incredibly excited to see what the next 12 months have in store for PermaGroup.”
