ARXADA UPDATES EPD FOR TANALITH E

To help timber manufacturers provide transparency on the environmental performance of their products, Arxada has invested in updating the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for Tanalith E.

The EPD for Tanalith E, a high-pressure water-based wood preservative, provides a cradle-to-gate assessment covering raw materials, emissions in the manufacturing, shipping and distribution processes, and packaging. Carried out by Dutch consultants, SHR, the EPD has been updated to help Arxada’scustomers create a full cradle-tograve assessment, looking at the environmental impact of timber treated with Tanalith E throughout its full life cycle.

Within the UK, EPDs are voluntary, but their use is rapidly becoming more common in line with growing environmental awareness. Andrew Hodge, Marketing Director for Arxada EIMEA Wood Protection division, commented:

“Both public and private stakeholders are increasingly demanding EPDs. More importantly, as a company committed to sustainability, we think they are simply the right and responsible thing to do going forward. We are investing in EPDs and Life Cycle Analysis across the portfolio of our products.”

“As an industry we do have pushback on the environmental credentials of pressure treated timber. We are looking forward to working with customers across Europe to build the EPD into their own environmental systems, helping to show how treated timber performs against more carbon intensive materials, and untreated timber, across its entire life-cycle.”
