CHANGING THE FENCING LANDSCAPE
The Profencer, Allan Froggatt’s wire netting, dispensing and tensioning system, has come a long way over the past 11 years.
In fact, it’s been around the world and then some with his machines currently in use across three continents but part of the story started off in the Isle of Man.
Adam Huxham, based at Ballaugh in the north of the island, was his first customer and is still an enthusiastic adherent for an innovation that has arguably changed the face of fencing.
“I took delivery of his first prototype model just a couple of years after starting my own business in 2008,” explained Adam.
“I’d used other fencing dispensing machines up until then and they all helped to make the job a lot easier but, in my opinion, none offer the functionality and flexibility of the Profencer. It really was, and still is, a game-changer.”

Adam, whose business has boomed over the past year or so, soon replaced the prototype with the Profencer Professional model. The Isle of Man proved to be the perfect testing ground with early refinements and modifications made by Allan thanks to Adam’s hard work.
Indeed Adam’s feedback contributed to the development of the machine that’s treasured by so many fencing contractors today. Innovation never stands still and nor, it seems, does Allan who designed the machine after almost four decades spent as a fencer.
Adam went on: “The support and encouragement offered by Allan from day one have been fantastic. He listened to what I had to say and responded accordingly with bespoke additions added and changes made that have helped to make the Profencer ever more effective out in the field.
“I’ve had my current machine for almost a decade and still looks and operates as if new. Not even the paintwork has deteriorated. It’s a piece of kit that really has stood the test of time.
“It was a big investment at the time but I learnt from the off that this was something that I really couldn’t do without. The risk paid off for me as it has for hundreds of contractors around the globe,” added Adam.

Allan, operating out of Ashfordin- the-Water near Bakewell in Derbyshire, is understandably delighted by the way his invention has progressed over the years and the way it’s been received by contractors from the USA to Australia.
Allan commented: “It’s a case of constant development for myself and Chris, my excellent engineer who makes the machines for me as we try to continually improve what we do.
“Sales have increased every year and we now have machines in use across Australia, Poland, France, Holland, Belgium, USA, Ireland and Hungary as well as the UK.
“Indeed over the past 18 months, we have shipped 10 machines to Germany and recently sold our first Profencer in Sweden. It can be a struggle to keep up with demand but we aim to please every single customer and are always listening to what they have to say.
“The latest accessory is the remote control which is proving popular with contractors who work on their own as you can operate it up to 300 metres away as well as from inside the tractor cab which saves even more time.
“Fencing is a tough and challenging profession that really is the definition of hard work. I’ve just tried to help lighten the load a bit and couldn’t be more pleased with how it’s been received since those early days.
“We have just revamped our website which features a wealth of images, videos and features that tell you all about the machine,” added Allan who now markets three separate models.
There’s the good old Professional, the Junior and the Junior Plus along with a range of attachments and accessories suited for every eventuality. The final word belongs to Adam, the Manx Profencer pioneer who took the plunge all those years ago.
“It’s a machine I couldn’t do without and has made my job so much easier as well as playing a significant part in the growth of my own business!”
The Profencer really has changed the fencing landscape for the better!
