CREATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR AN UNEVEN GARDEN

CREATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR AN UNEVEN GARDEN

With over ten years of experience in the industry, Leedsbased firm FirstLight Landscaping have seen their fair share of gardens.

Directors Liam Pickering and Neal Baker maintain a strong focus on design, and they utilise a thorough consultation process to address a customer’s needs and wants equally.

“We like being with the customer from start to finish of a project because it enables us to create a space that’s perfect for them each and every time – we want them to enjoy admiring the space as much as they enjoy using it.”

One issue that seems to crop up regularly as a real problem for homeowners is a sloping or uneven garden. For example, this project-based in Leeds. This garden was previously a steep, lawned area that couldn’t be used for much, and wasn’t that pleasing to look at either. The customer wanted a small, paved area to entertain friends and family, and had always wanted space for plants.

To address these issues the FirstLight design married bold aesthetics with practical functionality – a three-tiered garden to tackle the steep slope, a paved area and a decked area at the top and bottom of the garden respectively, sleeper retaining walls to create areas for planting, and a gorgeous Yorkshire stone-walled staircase to tie everything together.

The result? A garden that the customer was incredibly happy with. The design tackled the issues they’d had with the space beforehand, and it provided new features that they’d always wanted – a seamless blend of form and function, that’s easy to maintain.

To tackle the growing demand for design and landscaping work, FirstLight have an internal design team, and also work with external garden designers.
