DO YOU NEED CAT TRAINING?

 DO YOU NEED CAT TRAINING?

If your work involves breaking ground or excavation work, then the answer is yes!

With the potential risk of striking underground services, which can at worst be fatal, as well as causing serious injury, delays and further expense; it is essential that you have this training in place. This applies to whether you are planning, managing, or carrying out the work. During the last year, cable strikes increased by 26% (source HSE).

If you need to do this training, Fencing & Construction Training (FaCT) can help you with its flexible delivery options – either as an online course via Zoom; a classroom-based course at their Midlands site or a trainer can come to your site.

FaCT’s course is delivered in accordance with the HSE guidelines HSG47 ‘Avoiding danger from underground services,’ and the course highlights the potential hazards and how to use a range of methods to reduce the risk to people’s health and safety, as well damage to services, property, and equipment. The course includes safe systems of work when carrying out excavation work; understanding the risk and implications of damaging underground services;H & S legislation relating to excavations and underground services; how to identify different types of services; permits to dig; utility service plans; site observations; understanding the principles of a cable avoidance tool (CAT) and genny; operational modes of a CAT & genny; how to use the CAT & genny (signal generator); site scanning practices and methods and implications and actions of damaging a service.

Tim Drew, FaCT’s MD said “We started delivering the CAT course online during the lockdown and the demand hasn’t stopped – it’s a great option for saving time with travel and we have them running every week so courses can be booked at short notice. We know that online is not for everyone so we still deliver classroom-based courses and at client sites – the client-based courses work really well for larger groups and we can include a practical session as well.”

All classroom-based courses and online courses via Zoom can be booked online at www.fctrain.co.uk or to book directly with one of our team. For more information on client-based courses please call 0121 476 4731.
