ELLPRO TIMBER GETS IT RIGHT

When Ellpro Timber initially began stocking UC4 treated products, we were thinking about our reputation long-term. It was important that we should have a reliable product that we could sell with complete confidence and just as importantly, our customers could be confident when selling our UC4 products. Farming forums and trade articles were full of stories posted by end users, contractors, and merchants, understandably upset with failures they were experiencing with wooden fence posts. Treatment providers knew they had products that worked, but only if the correct procedures were properly followed in the treatment process. It is against that backdrop that we set about launching the Ellpro Pro-Post range and enlisted the help of Arch UK, who had just become part of the Lonza Group. The team at Castleford knew we were dedicated to producing a reliable, timber fencing product for our customers. A product that we would be proud to sell and that could be supplied with a long-life warranty of 15 years. They were constantly on hand to assist our efforts, both here in the UK and with our partners in Latvia, to make sure we got it right.
That was all 15 years ago, and we are pleased to say we did get it right. The Ellpro Pro-Post has gone from strength to strength and is now sold by the next generation of family here at Ellpro. It has become the trusted product for quality timber and fencing merchants all over the UK, looking to safeguard their own reputation against premature failures.
Alongside our Pro-Post range of fencing posts, Ellpro Timber has continued to supply customers with pressure treated creosote timber and as with our Pro-Posts, our creosote products are produced exclusively with kiln dried, redwood pine. Unlike our Pro-Posts, we have never been able to issue a formal warranty. Regardless, customers continue to buy creosote because they know how effective the treatment is. In recent years however, creosote has been under increased scrutiny. Following on from a ban in Europe, the UK will be implementing further regulations, and it appears likely that permissions for using creosote for fencing material will be removed. For a while now, it has been known there is a need in the UK for an effective replacement.
With the market searching for a creosote replacement that provides long life and a bona fide guarantee, the addition of DURA2 to our range has proved to be extremely popular. Here we have a product, produced with care and attention by professionals keen to see standards of timber treatment upheld and timber valued as a sustainable fencing material well into the future. Principles shared by Ellpro Timber. We are often contacted directly by contractors making enquiries regarding DURA2, more than any other product we sell. We are always happy to advise them on the advantages of DURA2 and point them towards the merchant we supply in their local area, but it demonstrates the growing demand from end users, for a trustworthy user-friendly alternative to creosote. DURA2 is the right product at the right time and the feedback we have received from our customers has been 100% positive. The nature of forest supply, however, means we are limited to sawn or machine round products in certain sizes. When it comes to volume, our customers supplying the agricultural market mostly buy natural peeled wooden fencing. That’s cundy peeled heavy duty straining posts, intermediate posts, struts and stakes in a huge range of sizes.
Clearly, it’s time for a UC4 treatment that’s a suitable alternative to creosote in appearance and longevity. It needs to be backed with a warranty, and it must be available on all our timber sizes including our complete line up of Natural Peeled Timber products. It should have all the benefits of creosote treatment, without the negative attributes.
We are delighted to introduce Ellpro Pro-Post ULTRA with a 25-year warranty.
As with the original Ellpro Pro-Post, which entered the market all those years ago, we know we have an excellent product, and now the trade knows, they are buying from a supplier with a proven record of reliability. Continuing to work with Tanalith, this time under the umbrella of Arxada we can benefit from advancements in treatment methods and refinements in kilning processes to maximise loading of treatment into redwood pine. Ellpro’s Pro-Post ULTRA with its rich dark appearance and identifying stamp, can be confidently supplied with a 25-year warranty. Our customers can be confident of our commitment to quality treated fencing timber and they have an alternative to creosote across the full extent of our fencing components, including sawn products, machine round products and now, natural peeled products.
