On the rolling edges of Chichester, West Sussex, fencing contractor Jeremy Curling of Curling Contractors Ltd recently completed a 2,500 metre installation that pushed both expertise and aesthetic expectations to new heights.

The Challenge

The South Downs chalk landscape and equally unforgiving, flint-rich ground means driving posts to full depth isn’t just difficult, it can be painfully slow.

While Tornado Wire’s Pro-Strain metal post system offered an obvious efficiency advantage, the client initially hesitated. The concern? The look. Metal posts risked standing against the natural landscape.

The bespoke approach

Teaming up with Malcolm Blackford and Wayne Beckett from Tornado Wire, Jeremy explored a custom solution. The result was a green powder-coated finish for the steel components.

This created a near-invisible fence line that satisfied the client’s visual standards without compromising on durability.

Installation without the obstacles

Despite the challenging terrain, Jeremy delivered a smooth installation thanks to a combination of smart tools and adaptable techniques.

   The Tornado Pro-Strain i-Post Holder/Twister Tool allowed for accurate alignment while driving posts into stubborn ground, ensuring perfectly straight fence lines.
2. Reliable tension with adjustable struts
   The adjustable struts are quick and easy to fit and enable you to pre-tension the straining posts.
3. Quick adaptation to ground depth changes
   Where driving to full depth wasn’t possible, Jeremy trimmed the post with a circular saw, a quick, tidy adjustment.
4. Fast, consistent stapling
   He highlighted the speed and ease of stapling into the i-Posts, another factor contributing to the project’s overall efficiency.
5. Compact post design
   The compact, practical design of the i-Posts allowed Jeremy to transport large quantities directly on the post knocker, reducing trips and streamlining installation.
