Following recent investment in a new treatment plant, Linnell Bros Ltd. have doubled capacity and streamlined their productivity allowing them to process UK timber, ready for Brexit and beyond.
Established in 1880 in Silverstone, this family owned and run business is now in its fourth generation and an ever-growing supply chain has led to greater demands on their capacity. With over £1 million recently invested in two brand new high pressure timber treatment plants from Tweddle Engineering, the focus of the Linnell cousins, becomes even more paramount; To provide the highest quality UK fencing and timber along with competent and knowledgeable customer support.
Fencing is the core of the business and now with the new treatment plant in-situ the process is exceptionally efficient. With the ability to process 3,000 cubic meters a month and 10-11 charges each day (the equivalent to 5-6 artic loads of timber), the treatment plant has doubled capacity as well as saving the operators at least two hours each day and a lot less manual labour!
Working with Lonza, who are one of the leading names in worldwide wood protection, this impressive new treatment plant has also resulted in an improved finished product with the penetration of thechemicals being significantly deeper and thus, Linnell’s treated timber will be more durable and will last longer than many of their counterparts.
The tilting tanks also allow for better liquid recovery as well as improved penetration. Not only this, but the plant is environmentally friendly, recycling the chemicals and storing300,000 litres of water, collected off the building. Linnell Bros can collect rainfall off the roof of the treatment plant. With the average rainfall being 24”/year there is capacity to collect 100,000 litres each month.
With huge emphasis on increasing woodland cover in England over the next few years, treatment of UK timber is paramount. 90% of Linnell Bros timber is home grown, the rest is imported. Currently a small proportion of imports will always be necessary as many businesses rely on round wood and primarily sawn softwood and hardwood, however Linnell Bros focus is very much UK based reducing their carbon footprint.
Linnell Bros suppliers are at the forefront of the ‘green economy’ ensuring efficient use of their natural resources, they are constantly driving to reduce waste and increase efficiency throughout the wood supply chain. They only use sustainable timber from FSC® and PEFCTM certificated sources. British tree planting is essential to ensure our future supply of wood for the sawmilling industry in 20 – 30 years time. Planting billions of trees across the world is one of the biggest and cheapest ways of taking CO2 out of the atmosphere to tackle the current climate crisis.
At any one time, Linnell Bros holds 20,000m3 of timber on their 20 acre site. With this 30% increase in stock holding, this forward- thinking family owned business has been able to take a comfortable position through Brexit and beyond, supporting British industry.
