KEEPING YOUR STAFF SAFE WITH FACT

Fencing training firm FaCT (Fencing and Construction Training) has been contacted by the HSE (Health & Safety Executive) on three occasions in recent weeks with requests to deliver training following accidents.

Tim Drew of FaCT commented: “Following HSE investigations, the businesses have been found to have not fulfilled their legal requirements to provide adequate training to their staff.

“Following a cable strike, when a fence installer hit an underground cable, the HSE investigated and found that the company did not have a safe digging policy in place, there were no CAT and Gennys available, and the staff had not been trained in safe digging techniques or how to locate underground services using cable avoidance tools.

“FaCT delivered a Location of Underground Service and Safe Digging course to help the company meet their requirements.

“In another incident, an employee injured themselves using a power tool and was subsequently taken to hospital. The HSE were informed and started an investigation.

“FaCT was contacted by the business and we delivered a package of training to cover the tools their employees used. This satisfied HSE and helped the company meet their requirements.

“A third accident took place involving a nail gun. The HSE visited the business and highlighted many areas where the company was not meeting their health & safety requirements, including employees using tools and equipment without training. This included a post driver and the nail gun.

“Once again FaCT was asked to provide advice on what training was required, and we have already delivered post driver training and location of underground services. Additional training on nail guns and other tools is planned to be delivered shortly.

“Don’t let this happen to you! Contact FaCT and we will provide you with advice on the training you require along with high quality courses that meet your legal requirements and helps keep your staff safe,” concluded Tim.
