A former house music DJ in Liverpool, Josh Sambrook-Jones is now dancing to an altogether different beat as MD of Chester-based J W Timber Trading.

“That was many moons ago,” exclaims Josh “and now my attentions are focused on building an innovative and responsive business that supplies high quality timber products to merchants and contractors across the UK, Europe and the world!”

Josh has spent 15 years within the timber sector and set up his own business in late 2022.

Three years on and that entrepreneurial spirit is paying dividends but, as he freely admits, it was a rollercoaster ride of emotions at the start.

“I still remember those early days in late 2022. It was a nervous time. Going solo with no backing can be frightening at first but now, as I look back, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

“My greatest achievement was the launch of our 30-year and 40-year creosote warranty range of timbers. Within a short timeframe, we are now being specified for large jobs throughout the British Isles.

“We are also now expanding our reach overseas and supplying companies throughout Europe, America and Australia with our products,” added Josh who hails originally from the timber ‘hot spot’ of Wrexham, just across the border from where he now bases his business.

Acutely aware of the longevity and reliability issues that blight the timber and fencing industry, Josh retains an unswerving commitment to providing our industry with the best possible products

“There are still too many companies out there offering substandard, poorly treated timber products and making false claims that simply don’t stand up to the test of time.

“We do not fall into that category and never will as long as I am at the helm. I want to see all of our products delivering on their promises and we are continually looking to improve our offering.

“We are currently working on a product that will outlast any fencing product in the industry. It’s a product that is both eco-friendly and easy to work with and, crucially, offers a minimum proven 50-year guarantee. Watch this space as they say!

“I’ll freely admit that I get a buzz out of what we do here. It might not be the same kind of buzz I experienced in the dance clubs of Merseyside all those years ago but it gives me the motivation to get out of bed each morning.

“No two days are the same. One minute we could be accepting a shipment of 1000m3, the next discussing interesting and challenging projects with new customers. It keeps life interesting!” added Josh who goes home to his young family each and every day.

“I have two young kids and I like to spend as much time as possible with them and my wife, Hannah.

“That is ultimately what it’s all about and my vibrant family life perfectly complements the exciting and challenging journey that J W Timber Trading is on.

“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” concluded Josh whose work ethic is already marking him out as a ‘mover and shaker’ within our sectors.
