THE IMPORTANCE OF MACHINERY MAINTENANCE AND TRAINING

We all know that training is important. Many sites won’t allow contractors access without valid training accreditation. It is also a legal requirement for you to keep your equipment properly maintained and checked.

As a nationally accredited training provider, TUPPCO can offer the full range of NPORS and LANTRA onsite training and assessments (including progression to CSCS leading to NVQ).

Did you know, we are also a fully accredited thorough test examination centre; meaning TUPPCO can provide comprehensive, industry recognised, on-site, thorough test inspections to PUWER & LOLER regulation standards on a range of machinery and equipment including:

  • Telehandler
  • Industrial counterbalance
  • Skid Steer Loader
  • MEWPs
  • Excavator as a crane
  • Post Rammer
  • Loading Shovel
  • Fore End Loader on Tractor
  • Attachments and Lifting Accessories

Why the need to maintain and check machinery & equipment?

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) states that a thorough examination of machines and attachments used for lifting is required under health and safety legislation: LOLER 1998 (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations), which covers lifting equipment, and PUWER 1998 (The Provision and Work EquipmentRegulations), which deals with all other safety-related items, suchas brakes, steering and tyres. Your regular inspections as part of a preventive maintenance scheme or scheduled service are not a thorough examination.

In short, every employer/ machinery owner must ensure that machinery, equipment and lifting equipment is thoroughly examined:

a. in the case of lifting equipment for lifting persons or an accessory for lifting, at least every 6 months

b. in the case of other equipment including lifting equipment, at least every 12 months.
