WILL OF THE PEOPLE IN ABERDEENSHIRE

WILL OF THE PEOPLE IN ABERDEENSHIRE

Necessity is the mother of invention, so goes the phrase and it rings true in the case of Aberdeenshire fencing contractor Keith Will.

“I decided to start my business in December 2007 after spending a few years fencing with another contractor who decided on a career change,” said Keith. “I purchased all of his equipment and haven’t looked back since.
“It’s just myself and one other self-employed labourer although I do sometimes get other labourers in if the job requires it.
“I focus on agricultural, equestrian and domestic fencing work across Aberdeenshire within a 30 mile radius of my base in Insch,” added Keith.
Keith certainly isn’t short of machinery to aid and assist his work across the hilly Highland terrain with a MF6465 tractor powering a Protech 400S postchapper, Bobcat E62 digger with Grab and Drive postknocker and a Quickfencer .
“The Bobcat and attached postknocker, along with a Stewart low loader, have been my most recent investments,” added Keith “and they all help to ease the workload. I’ve always aimed to keep my equipment up to date and will be replacing my tractor in the near future.

“The Bobcat was a very good investment as it allows me to work solo if I need to. I did investigate the viability of buying a tracked postchapper but found there were limitations to its use in this part of the world.”
The work continues to roll in despite a few issues with price increases and availability of materials as he explained: “I’m very busy with plenty of work scheduled in for the coming months however the current challenges of supply and rising costs, as experienced across many sectors, are proving to be problematic.
“As contractors we just have to crack on and deal with it!” said Keith who has always gained a lot of satisfaction from his working life in the great outdoors.
“There’s nothing better than being able to work out in the countryside just as long as the weather is good!
“Like every contractor I do occasionally start a job that makes me question why I took on that particular project but, after completing it, you’re left thinking ‘that’s a good job and it wasn’t so bad after all.
“You’re helping to shape and improve the natural environment and it’s always very pleasing to see the difference you’ve made to a property or site,” added Keith who has plenty more on his plate besides fencing.
“I have two young children who keep me busy and I love spending time with them. I’m very much a family man and nothing beats getting home to them at the end of a tough day. They are, after all, one of the main reasons why I’m doing this! “Any free time I might have is spent helping out at my parent’s 100 acre, mixed farm. It’s a full life but I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way!” concluded Keith.

It’s amazing how a career change can enable the spirit of enterprise!
