FENCING COMES NATURALLY FOR JAMIE

Jamie Campbell, owner of West Sussex-based Tattersall Groundworks, has always had a love of the great outdoors.

After studying for a degree in Farm Management at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester, it was almost inevitable that he’d end up in a role where he’d be helping to shape the countryside around Fittleworth where he grew up. “I worked for a number of different agricultural businesses,” Jamie explained “before setting up my own business around seven years ago. “Initially it was focused on groundworks and a lot of digger work but, over time, the emphasis has shifted to fencing and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love what I do with a passion and Tattersall Groundworks has gradually evolved over time. “It’s strange to look back on those early days and compare it to where I am now. You become so wrapped up in your work but it’s always good to take stock of the journey. As your name gets around, you find that the business takes care of itself,” added Jamie, a keen lover of shooting and rugby. He works alongside Seb who is self-employed for agricultural and equestrian customers across West Sussex, Hampshire, Surrey and occasional ventures further afield around the south of England. “We’ve got a loyal base of customers, including three large estates in the region, that keeps the work flowing in with word of mouth helping to spread our reputation. “I focus predominantly on stock and post and rail fencing contracts as well as working with Horserail’s systems for equestrian customers. There’s also the occasional bit of chestnut fencing carried out for homeowners. “It’s a mixed bag of work that brings us a lot of satisfaction and all eased by the use of a couple of tracked Protech Evo post knockers and a Solonetter. “I’ve always used Protech machinery and I’m a big fan of the Solonetter that has been a real game changer in terms of how we work and what we can deliver. “We’ve also forged a very strong relationship with McVeigh Parker who can always be counted on when it comes to a range of supplies. We all need effective partnerships to keep things going and they always step up to the mark. “I’m very active on social media, especially Instagram, and recently invested in a decent camera and a drone. “A birds eye view of a completed contract brings a fresh perspective and reflects well on what we’ve achieved out in the field,” he added.

Indeed Tattersall Groundworks’ excellent website includes a stunning home page image of a completed project in the South Downs. A picture paints a thousand words! “Like anything in life, there are occasional setbacks. I suffered an arm injury earlier this year. It threw a bit of a spanner in the works but you get back on the horse and keep carrying on. Nothing can get in the way of doing what you love. “It’s been a gradual evolution for Tattersall Groundworks over the years and I can only foresee me doing fencing for a long time to come. “It comes naturally!” concluded Jamie. At just 31 years of age it’s clear that Jamie has a long future ahead of him improving the great outdoors of the southern counties!
