BRITISH OPEN AND SPEED FENCING COMPETITION DRAWS IN COMPETITORS FROM 6 COUNTRIES

McVeigh Parker have witnessed huge interest in the ‘British Open’ with competitors coming from England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Norway and the USA, all keen to compete and learn from one another.

The British Open will be judged by a pedigree of judges:

Nicholas Liefting from New Zealand, twice winner of the prestigious Golden Pliers and four times winner of the Silver Spades, is the 2008 Gold Medal World Champion and 2012 Bronze Medallist in Germany. Nick has been competing for over 40 years. He has successfully qualified for 36 Golden Pliers (Singles) finals and 37 Silver Spades (Doubles) finals.

In the last 28 years before his retirement, Nick was first off the line in the Golden Pliers, achieving times that no one has yet come close to. He is the chief judge and organiser of many of New Zealand’s premier fencing competitions while also serving on the World Championship panel.

For those interested in an evening read, Nick has written a book on the Golden Pliers, which is available online. With over 40 years of experience, Nick has also held training workshops and instructed the next generation in various types of fencing.

Hugh Morrison – Fencer, Tutor, and Salesman – has been an industry figurehead and a familiar face, featured in nearly all of Strainrite’s instructional videos. Hugh has been a part of the Strainrite team for 25 years.

Hugh is deeply invested in both domestic and international agricultural fencing markets. In recent years, he has attended various agricultural shows and training events worldwide, not only promoting the Strainrite brand but also extending his knowledge and techniques to ensure the sustainability of workmanship and safety.

For 20 years, Hugh was a lead judge at the Mystery Creek Fieldays in New Zealand, where he judged the Golden Pliers events. His keen eye for detail has placed the best on the podium and inspired runners-up to work with him to secure their future success.

Hugh has tutored for 10 years, and many full-time fencers globally have had the chance to learn and hone their skills under his supervision.

In addition to his work in the Agricultural Fencing sector, Hugh was a competitive shearer for many years, participating in the Golden Shears. His winning attitude took him internationally, shearing in Australia, the US, and the UK.

James Hill – UK fencing contractor with over 30 years of experience in agricultural fencing.

Ash Lane – Owner of Starveacre Fencing.

The event will involve installing 60m of Xfence with three lines of wire, one of which is suitable for electrification, using traditional methods and hand tools on the infamous APF hill.

The British Open Speed Fencing Competition will feature the installation of 32m of Xfence wire netting, with three lines of wire and the top line designed for electrification. Competitors will race against the clock using the latest innovations in fencing, including all-steel Clipex posts, Clipex insulators, Triple X all-steel strainers, and Xfence wire. The erection will be done using the latest joining and tensioning technology from brands such as Gripple and Strainrite.

Teams will compete throughout the day on the 19th of September, with winners selected based on both the fastest time and the quality of their work.

Cash and trophy prizes will be awarded to the winners and runners-up, kindly sponsored by our leading suppliers: Clipex Fencing, Summit Steel, Gripple, and Robertson Engineering Ltd.
