BRITISH OPEN FENCING CHAMPIONSHIPS AND SPEED FENCING COMPETITION SET TO IGNITE APF SHOW 2026
FENCING INDUSTRY PULLS TOGETHER
FENCING INDUSTRY PULLS TOGETHER
IT’S INCREDIBLE HOW THE FENCING INDUSTRY PULLS TOGETHER TO LOOK AFTER ITS OWN IN TIMES OF GRIEF.
Earlier this year Scottish fencing contractor Damien McDougall tragically took his own life leaving a wife and 3 children to cope with the aftermath.
Within days a group of fencers who knew Damien had formulated a campaign to raise funds for his children, 2 daughters Anya and Autumn and son Bruce.
Charlie Wright of Front Row Fencing, based near Market Rasen in Lincolnshire, explained: “Damien had been up and down for the past few years but it was still a massive shock to hear of his death. I didn’t know him that well but we had met a few times at fencing competitions over the years.
“It was clear he had a great love of hard work and his family so, when another contractor got in touch with me to suggest we should all get together to help Damien’s children, I was in.
“So far we have raised over £22,000 with most of that coming from a fundraising event held near Peterborough in mid September. We auctioned off a range of products and services including a week of fencing work donated by Si Gibbs of Hamps Valley Boundaries Fencing and a log grab machine by . Peter Redgwell from PDR Contracting.
“There was also staple gun donated by Tornado that was bought by Robert Bishop for £1000 however on the night after he won it, he put it straight back in the auction and it made another £900 so £1900 in total, this was truly generous from Rob who is also the founder of the UK fencing face book page where a lot of contractors got to know each other.
“We all have to support each other and it’s been truly inspiring to see the commitment of people in helping out those who need it such as Damien’s children,” concluded Charlie.
