BRITISH OPEN FENCING CHAMPIONSHIPS AND SPEED FENCING COMPETITION SET TO IGNITE APF SHOW 2026
GETTING SOCIAL!
There are plenty of options when it comes to social media. Aside of Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube there are numerous social media sites that are worth looking into when it comes to promoting your business online. Here’s three that are worth considering…
Threads is a social media microblogging service operated by Meta Platforms, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook. Although gaining engagement can be a challenge for this relatively fledgeling platform, a number of fencing firms across the UK are already posting interesting content.
Bluesky is a microblogging social media service that is very similar in appearance and function to X (formerly Twitter). It was initially developed as a research project within Twitter before becoming an independent public benefit corporation in 2021. There’s not much in the way of fencing content on the platform at present but traction will inevitably grow with time as more and more businesses opt to migrate from X.
TikTok is a social media platform that hosts a wide range of short-form videos, from comedy and memes to educational content and DIY projects. It is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance and has been embraced effectively by a number of businesses within our sector to showcase interesting movies and share tips.
It will take time for the likes of Threads and Bluesky to make inroads into the ‘big’ players but, at the very least, they are worthy of exploration.
Derby-based MD Fencing and Sheridan Fencing from Kent are just two of a number of UK fencing firms to post on Threads. Engagement, in terms of likes and follows, can often be a struggle and it’s a case of finding the balance in terms of time committed to this activity and the benefits that can be accrued but, for the sake of the few seconds it takes to put a post together, it might well be worth the effort.
Creative images and instructional videos invariably draw folks in and, when backed up by concise and interesting copy, can deliver results. Don’t post “fluff” though and keep the commercial messaging slightly veiled.
No one likes a hard sell!
