NEW OPTIONS FOR TIMBER FENCING SHOWCASED AT AFI CONFERENCE

Listening to the needs of fencing contractors, Belgian-based timber treaters CIBB launched their entry into the UK timber fencing market at the AFI Timber In Ground Contact conference at the beginning of November.

Showcasing both DURA² and STRONGLIFEWOOD fencing, CIBB spoke to conference delegates about exciting new options for UK fencing that have been adopted in France, Belgium, and The Netherlands as alternatives to Creosote treated posts for Use Class 4 applications.

Before France banned the use of Creosote for fence posts in 2019, CIBB identified the need to build confidence in high-quality timber fencing alternatives for the European market. They launched DURA² and it has been quickly adopted for equestrian fencing. Supplied with a beautiful chestnut brown colour, DURA² pine posts provide a long service life thanks to an enhanced and patented process based on Tanalith® E wood preservative and a Tanalith® colour system.

After the success of DURA², CIBB saw the opportunity to develop a timber fencing range suitable for even the most exposed and harshest environments. Pine STRONGLIFEWOOD posts are treated with Tanasote® wood preservative and provide an average life of 40 years. Tanasote® is an oil-based copper wood preservative which is being welcomed into the timber market as a modern-day, Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) authorised alternative to Creosote.

CIBB Director, Corneel Lenaers, attended the AFI Timber In Ground Contact conference and listened to the concerns raised by UK fencing contractors and believes DURA² and STRONGLIFEWOOD are new options to help rebuild trust in treated timber. Corneel comments:

“CIBB has nearly 60 years’ experience of treating timber and are keen to share this experience with the UK market. We produce an annual volume of 200,000 m³ of high-pressure treated wood and approximately 15,000 m³ of Creosoted wood. Like the fencing contractors we spoke with, we are keen to replace Creosote and are confident that with DURA² and STRONGLIFEWOOD we are bringing two viable, long-term options to the UK fencing market.”
