A TREAT IN STORE WITH TIMBER TREATMENT SOLUTIONS
Cumbria-based Timber Treatment Solutions (TTS) does exactly what it says on the tin.
Born from Tweddle Fabrications, founded in 1989, and strengthened in 2020 by a joint venture with Métallerie du Sud Lorrain (MSL) near Nancy, the business now delivers complete timber-treatment operations worldwide. Almost a year on from the management buyout of Tweddle Fabrications—together with a significant stake in TTS—Director Joe Watson reflects on the journey so far.
“Between us we’ve got more than 60 years’ experience,” says Joe. “From automatic dipping tanks to high-pressure plants, wood-handling systems and modern control technology, we’ve grown into an international supplier with a strong, loyal customer base.”
That momentum is visible on the ground. TTS has recently delivered Ireland’s first purpose-built copper-oil treatment plant. Building on that, the team is installing a major twin-autoclave system with automatic handling in France and a further system in Belgium—each designed specifically for copper-oil. Working hand-in-hand with preservative suppliers, TTS focuses on process optimisation: vessel geometry, fluid management, temperature control and recovery systems are engineered to make this new generation of creosote-replacement preservatives efficient, consistent and commercially viable.
The company’s pipeline extends far beyond Europe. “We’ve currently got impregnation plants heading out to Australia, Canada and Fiji, as well as multiple projects across the UK and Ireland,” Joe adds.
Whether it’s a turnkey facility or a phased upgrade, TTS supports customers from feasibility and layout through manufacture, installation and commissioning, with PLC control, plant management, data logging and remote diagnostics as standard.
Separate to copper-oil, TTS also leads in incising technology for applications where improved penetration is needed. The Excalibur range sets the benchmark with up to 12mm deep incisions across all models. The Excalibur Pro400 delivers high-speed, precision incising for sawn material, while the Excalibur R900 and R1200 serve round sections with exceptional consistency; the latest R1200 now accepts timber up to Ø275 mm, helping increase incision density, improve cycle reliability and sharpen treatment economics.
A member of the Wood Protection Association (WPA), TTS is also the UK agent for Italian kiln manufacturer Nardi.
Joe went on “That breadth matters: drying, incising and treatment can be integrated into one cohesive line, delivering products that are fully regulatory compliant—especially for Use Class 4. The result is a practical, joined-up approach that simplifies operations, reduces handling and boosts throughput.
“Having designed, built, tested and commissioned many innovative plants, the expertise we’ve gained keeps us at the forefront,” Joe says. “We take real pride in making sure treated timber is fit for purpose reliably, efficiently and safely.”
From first sketches to final sign-off—and long after commissioning—TTS’s promise is the same: robust engineering, attentive service, product support and treatment performance you can measure.
