CHANGING THE FACE OF FENCING WITH PLASTIVAN
Going plastic really does have its advantages, with Bristol-based Plastivan capturing the pioneer spirit when it comes to fencing systems.
Founded in 1966 in Belgium, Plastivan has been operating in the UK for over three decades with its innovative range of fence solutions, principally aimed at domestic customers and designed to look great while delivering long-term performance.
This year, the company celebrates 60 years of innovation and international growth, a milestone that reflects Plastivan’s long-standing commitment to developing durable and forward-thinking building solutions.
UK Sales Manager Jason Ell took up the story:
“Duofuse tongue-and-groove fencing is a great option for anyone looking to upgrade from traditional timber,” says Jason. “It’s smart, stylish, and built to last. We manufacture it in Belgium using a composite of wood flour and PVC, so it gives you the natural look of wood without the upkeep.”
“The plank design is timeless and works well with all kinds of architectural styles,” he adds. “Because it’s a modular tongue-and-groove system, it’s also easy to install, even on uneven ground. You don’t have to worry about warping, fading, or weather damage. It’s built to stay looking great for years, and we offer it in four classic colours to suit different tastes.”
But it’s not just fencing. The system is designed to be highly versatile.
“People use it to build everything from garden gates and planters to gazebos, carports and sheds,” Jason explains. “We provide a complete range of accessories including aluminium and composite posts, post caps, U-profiles, post holders and finishing trims. So whether you’re a professional installer or tackling a DIY project, everything is there to make the job straightforward.”
“Plus, there’s a 10-year warranty, and because sustainability is a big focus for us, you can feel good about choosing Duofuse,” he says. “It ticks all the boxes. It looks great, lasts for years, and is easy to work with.”
On the more premium end, there is also the aluminium tongue-and-groove range.
“If you want something really sleek and modern, the aluminium system is a fantastic choice,” says Jason. “It has a clean, architectural look, and because it’s made from corrosion-resistant aluminium, it doesn’t rust or stain and requires virtually no maintenance. It also helps with privacy and noise reduction, which a lot of homeowners are looking for.”
“The planks can be installed horizontally or vertically, and they pair really well with materials like stone or concrete,” he continues. “They’re stackable, available in two refined colours, and suitable for installation on a wide range of surfaces, from soil to tiles. Whether used on its own or combined with other Duofuse products, it delivers a high-end finish with long-term performance.”
Introducing the new DF7 Rhombus Composite Fencing Board, Plastivan is expanding its range to meet evolving market trends.
“We’re seeing a shift in demand,” explains Export Manager Bert Lanssens. “Customers are increasingly asking for vertical slat designs that offer a more modern look. The DF7 Rhombus has been developed to meet that demand, with a profile that can be installed both horizontally and vertically, featuring five narrower slats instead of three.”
Manufactured entirely in-house at Plastivan’s Oostrozebeke facility, the DF7 Rhombus benefits from strict quality control throughout the production process.
“There are significant differences in quality across wood-plastic composites,” Lanssens continues. “Many products on the market contain over 70 percent wood flour, which reduces resistance to moisture. Others use PE or PP plastics that are more prone to expansion and deformation. We use a 50/50 mix of wood flour and PVC, which delivers superior mechanical performance.”
By controlling the entire production chain, from compounding to extrusion and mould making, Plastivan ensures consistent quality and durability.
“The result is a board that does not rot, deform or fade, while maintaining the natural appearance of real wood.”
The DF7 Rhombus is available in three colours, Graphite Black, Stone Grey and Wenge Brown. It measures 27 mm thick, 200 mm high and 2 metres long. Since its launch earlier this year, it has already received strong market feedback, with demand continuing to grow.
Plastivan’s Duofuse systems continue to set a high benchmark for fencing innovation, combining aesthetics, durability and sustainability for the modern homeowner.
