ANNANDALE TIMBER INSTALLS SECOND GLENFARROW KILN
It’s just over a year since Fencing News last caught up with Jamie Long of Annandale Timber and the business continues to make great strides on the back of a high quality, professional approach when it comes to treatment and drying.
Based just outside of Moffat in Dumfries and Galloway, Annandale Timber was founded in 2009 and is perfectly located close to the M74 to service a growing customer base that stretches from the southwest of England up to the north of Scotland.
“We’ve just installed a second, smaller Glenfarrow kiln to cope with demand,” explained Jamie. “The smaller kiln allows us to get the timber processed more efficiently and effectively and ultimately get it out to our customers faster.
“Our existing kiln can take two artic loads whereas the newly installed kiln accommodates around half of that on a smaller footprint. Kiln manufacturing specialist Glenfarrow, based at Spalding down in Lincolnshire, is proving to be a very reliable partner.
“The new kiln is efficient with regards to heat and we’re not burning through as much fuel. It’s a more efficient and cost-effective process that suits our needs and those of our customers.
“Either way, we are still getting fantastic results from the incising, treatment and drying process thanks to the support of our treatment partner Impra. The larch, spruce and pine that we process consistently deliver penetration and retention that goes above and beyond any of our expectations.
“The incising process allows us to gain full sapwood penetration and the monthly testing results provided by Impra continue to impress. We are way above where we need to be and all of our results are available for customers to view for added peace of mind.
“Word soon spreads and reputation grows when people learn that the products we supply deliver on quality and longevity which is such a crucial consideration when it comes to ground contact timbers. Around 90% of what we supply is used specifically for fencing,” added Jamie.
Annandale’s increased capacity reflects an approach that runs in parallel with a growing customer base. Utilising timber from all over the UK, with a particular focus on Scotland, Jamie and his team use local hauliers to get products to the right places at the right time.
An original focus on larch and pine from across the UK has expanded in recent times to incorporate spruce sourced predominantly from the south of Scotland.
“We’re going great guns right now,” added Jamie “and constantly busy whilst still being able to welcome new customers on board and satisfy their needs.
“Another big contributory factor in Annandale’s growth has been the continuing hard work and support from my employees. Their commitment to the cause and hard work is invaluable.
