WALES NEEDS TO PLANT 43,000 HECTARES OF TREES, AND YOU CAN BENEFIT FROM IT!

The effects of climate change are increasingly being felt, with extreme weather events becoming more frequent and no country exempt from the suffering.

Consequently, countries are taking measures to slow it down as much as possible. In some cases they are trying to reduce CO2 emissions with restrictions on the circulation of cars, others are trying to save energy, and others favour the generation of electricity from renewable sources.

The proposed measures in Wales focus on the need to increase the forest stock to offset CO2emissions. The Welsh Government recently pledged the £32 million Woodland Creation Grant to farmers and landowners for tree planting and fencing. Wales needs to plant 43,000 hectares of new woodland by the end of this decade as part of its target to make the country net zero by 2050. The plan includes both small areas of less than 2 hectares and large tracts of woodland. In both cases, subsidies are offered for tree planting, fencing, wooden gates, and 12 years of maintenance support.

So, if you have forest land suitable for planting trees, you can apply for these subsidies. The scheme is set to include fencing and gates, so you can start thinking about what products best suit your needs. Knotted netting is a good idea as it provides great protection for wildlife. Among the options available on the market you can find anti-sliding fixed knot meshes, such as FK MRT® and XK MRT®, or the versatility of the hinge joint knot offered by the ever-popular Masterfence® range. MRT manufactures all these meshes, as well as other types of fencing that the subsidy could accept. On their website www.moreda.com you can find all the information about their products, or contact your local merchant.

By purchasing products manufactured by MRT, you are also ‘doing your bit’ by indirectly contributing to the fight against climate change, as all MRT products are made from recycled steel which can be recycled an infinite number of times. In this way, iron ore and coke (almost pure carbon extracted from coal) are not mined to produce the steel, so there is no harm to the environment. In fact, the CELSA Group™ (the group to which MRT belongs) is already the Europe’s leading producer of circular steel.

In summary, combating the effects of climate change is everyone’s job, and if you can also benefit from subsidies such as the Woodland Creation Grant using MRT’S sustainable wire fencing to help in the fight, so much the better.
