A COATING WITH A DIFFERENCE

If you have seen the Estate®WIRE Dragon range of fencing from ArcelorMittal Sheffield, you may have wondered what the coating actually is and what makes the Dragon product different to the rest?

The green coating is a polymer coating that is applied after the process of galvanising the wire. ArcelorMittal Sheffield are fortunate in that they have a vertically integrated production process meaning their raw material (their wire), comes from a drawing and galvanising mill within their parent company. This means they have total control over their production process and quality of the wire they use.

“Applying the green polymer coating is not an easy task” explained Tony Hinchliffe, CEO of ArcelorMittal Sheffield, “but luckily for us, we have a wealth of wire drawing, galvanising and coating experience at our supplying mill in Luxembourg which enables us to produce a high quality, consistent green product”.

Estate®WIRE Dragon is unique in the market place in that underneath the green polymer coating, is a 2Life® wire product.

2Life® is wire that is galvanised with a zinc and aluminium coating. Other fencing products on the market are only galvanised with a zinc only coating. The addition of aluminium to the coating slows down the sacrificial reaction of zinc with the atmosphere, resulting in a longer product life span in terms of corrosion. As the name suggests, 2Life® is guaranteed to last at least twice as long as a zinc only heavily galavnised EN10244-2 Class A products.

“When it comes to green fencing, our Estate®WIRE Dragon really does tick all the boxes” commented Shaun Gervis, Head of Sales. “It is produced by a long standing UK manufacturer, we are our own raw material source so availability is never an issue, and it is the product offering the longest service life on the market.”
