After 56 years on its Tyne Dock site at Jarrow, the North East timber importer and sawmiller M H Southern has moved its headquarters across to its existing Gateshead site.
This consolidation move to the former Robert Duncan Timber Products facility at Felling will now see the company operating under the single and well established M H Southern & Company identity.
Managing Director James Southern commented, ‘We have taken the opportunity to re-focus our main manufacturing
and processing facilities onto our Gateshead site with a £1.8 million investment that will bring real benefits to our customers. A brand new mill incorporating a new Stenner re-saw line and a new and larger high pressure treatment facility will bring greater capacity and speed to our operation. Our low pressure treatment facility has also been transferred across to offer preservative treatments to our customers building and joinery timbers where required.’
‘With over 100 years of experience we will continue to be a customer focussed business specialising in importing, processing and distributing an in-depth range of high quality hardwoods and softwoods to the UK timber trade. Large section and long
length timbers remain a particular speciality and with on-site strength grading and latest generation preservative treatments we can offer a quick and reliable response to our customers with both local and national deliveries from our own fleet of lorries. Our Berwick upon Tweed depot continues to offer a local service within the Northumberland and Borders areas.’
