A NEW LINE OF DEFENCE FIRST FENCE UNVEILS LANDMARK AGRICULTURAL FENCING RANGE
The patchwork quilt of the British countryside, a timeless vista of rolling fields, dense woodland, and thriving pastures, is defined by its boundaries.
These boundaries, often simple lines of wire and wood, are the silent sentinels of rural life. They are crucial for the stewardship of the land, serving a multitude of purposes from safeguarding valuable livestock and protecting burgeoning crops from wildlife, to marking territories and ensuring the safety of the public. Whatever the specific need, the integrity of a fence line is paramount. Recognising this fundamental truth, Derbyshire-based perimeter security specialist First Fence has unveiled an ambitious and comprehensive expansion into the agricultural sector.
In a move set to reshape the market for rural contractors and landowners, First Fence, headquartered in Swadlincote, has launched an extensive new collection of its own branded agricultural wire. This is no minor product update; the company is introducing a staggering 38 new varieties of wire rolls, a bold initiative designed to offer unparalleled choice and availability across the UK.
The new collection is thoughtfully segmented into distinct, purpose-driven ranges. These include PastureGuard™, a versatile selection of light, medium, and heavy-duty stock fencing for containing animals like sheep and cattle. For jobs requiring superior strength and longevity, the StrainSure™ range offers high-tensile stock fencing. Addressing the specific challenge of keeping larger animals at bay, AntlerGuard™ provides a robust line of deer fencing. The equestrian community is catered for with EquiMesh™, a specialist horse stock fencing with a mesh structure designed to prevent hoof injuries. Complementing these are StrainLine™, offering mild steel and high-tensile line wires, and AgriHex™, a wide-ranging series of hexagonal wire netting ideal for protecting poultry, game birds, and young trees, as well as general-purpose rabbit netting.
Toby Roberts-Davies, the Product & Marketing Manager at First Fence, elaborates on the scale of the launch. “We are bringing a total of 38 new varieties of agricultural wire rolls to the UK market, something that no one has done before in one go and in such mass quantity,” he explains. This is not just about variety, but also about immediate access. First Fence is committing to holding substantial quantities of every single version across its UK-wide network of depots.
This strategic move was born from a careful analysis of the sector’s pain points. “Leading the product development on this, we wanted to ensure we met industry expectations,” says Roberts-Davies.
“It was crucial that the rolls are manufactured in close accordance with BS EN 10223-5:2012 and galvanised for protection to BS EN 10244-2:2023.”
This commitment to quality is matched by a desire to solve a persistent frustration for those on the ground. “When we analysed the market, it’s clear that when push comes to shove, the farming contractor has often had to accept whatever is in stock, rather than their preferred specification,” Roberts-Davies notes. “We plan to ensure the contractor now has a much wider variety available on a same-day and next-day basis, for collections and deliveries. This gives them exactly what they need for a specific job, rather than having to compromise.”
The technical specifications of the new ranges underscore this focus on quality and reliability. The standard fencing ranges boast a tensile strength of 695−850N/mm², providing a sturdy and dependable barrier. For more demanding applications, the high-tensile ranges are engineered with a formidable tensile strength of 1235−1390N/mm², ensuring they can withstand the challenges of boisterous livestock and the unforgiving British weather for years to come.
“It’s really important when entering a new sector that we offer a consistent quality that the market has grown to respect,” Roberts-Davies concludes. “We’re doing this whilst continuing our typical First Fence evolution of making access to fencing supplies easier and quicker for everyone.”
To provide a complete solution, the launch will be supported by a full inventory of timber agricultural posts to suit all fence heights. Farmers, landowners, and fencing contractors can expect to see the full range fully stocked and available nationwide by the end of November 2025, heralding a new era of choice, quality, and convenience in the protection of Britain’s vital rural landscape.
