GETTING SOCIAL!

Welcome to a new regular feature where we take a look at how the fencing industry is using the various social media platforms to build awareness and ultimately generate new business.
Whether it’s Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, X (formerly Twitter), Threads, or new platforms such as Bluesky, there’s a lot to be gained from posting regular updates, images, and videos, and it need not take up much of your time. Content is king!
In this first feature, we turn the spotlight on Instagram, a platform that Fencing News has just joined (@fencingnewsmagazine) and is used predominantly to share images and videos. Follow us and we’ll follow you back!
The leader in the field is arguably Stuart Miles (@stu_the_agri_fencer), who was profiled in a recent issue of Fencing News (unless you know otherwise!) and has almost 50,000 followers. Stuart is constantly posting videos that include handy tips and advice that engage with his following and really is the benchmark for anyone looking to launch a presence on Instagram.
There are many other names in the industry who are also posting great content, including Mark Blair (@mark_mfence1), our Tales from the Far North columnist, who has an interesting feed that is complemented by a presence for his trusty Border Collies, Ben and Craig (@ben_craig_border_collies). Even our beloved canines can go viral!
There are many more folks and firms in our industry making a splash. Take a look for yourself!
It’s so easy to set up an account and is a great way of sharing images and videos from completed projects or new fencing products that you’re bringing to market. Just a few minutes each week should suffice, but try to have a rough plan as to what you want to profile. It all helps to tell a story about your business!
We would love to hear about any posts or activity, regardless of the platform, that have worked for you and made an impact, so please forward any links or screengrabs to Ben in the office!
And remember… always tag Fencing News into your Instagram posts and we will help to spread the word!
