GOODLAD BY NAME, GREAT BUSINESS BY NATURE
The name of a business can speak volumes and this certainly rings true for South Yorkshire firm Goodlad Contracting.
Founded by brothers Shane Goodlad and Dean as an agricultural contracting business when they was just 16 and 17 years old, the business has expanded in recent years to incorporate fencing services into their offering.
Shane explains, “Around two years ago we started to do fencing in order to increase our capabilities within the industries we operate.
“When l started the company l bought a tractor and originally focused on agricultural contracting. It now involves myself and my brother Dean together with three full time operatives, three part time operatives and two part time office staff. We are definitely a growing concern!
“We focus on commercial and highways fencing projects and contracts although I have to admit that my favourite kind of fencing is post and rail.

“We also carry out a lot of tree and vegetation management contracts as well as landscaping works
“We do provide nationwide cover but most of our workload falls within a 100 mile radius of our yard at Penistone near Sheffield,” added Shane.
The team at Goodlad Contracting operate a 2.5 tonne excavator with a converted pecker for driving in posts as well as a Protech Evo Compact and Kubota RTV.
Shane went on “Finding good workers with the right mind set to progress and balancing my own time on site working and managing the business are my biggest challenges but, like all contractors, I find a way and do enjoy the satisfaction and pride that comes with knowing we’ve done an excellent job.
“All our employees are fully trained and carry CSCS & FISS certification for the machines operated on site. This offers peace of mind for our customers the safety of our workforce is our number one concern.
“We have invested in a range of specialist equipment to mechanise operations and remove operatives from hazards wherever possible. All of our machinery and equipment is fully maintained and serviced to ensure maximum efficiency and safety.
“We aim to nurture good relationships with our suppliers and this helps to cement trust from our growing customer base. They know that we’ll be using the very best, competitively priced materials to fulfil their requirements,” he added.
The testimonials on the Goodlad website bear testament to the diligence of Shane’s firm with glowing praise reflected in named quotes like: “This is a young business in many ways, yet at the same time very mature in thinking around their customer service proposition” and, “We have worked together for the past 6 years. We have found them highly efficient and always do a first class job.”
Shane concluded, “We aim to do each job as professionally and effectively as possible and our reputation is growing on the back of that ethos,” .
Goodlad by name and Goodlad by nature, Shane and the team are clearly on the highway to success with their ever evolving, contracting business.
