QAB SYSTEMS IN THE VANGUARD OF INNOVATION

It’s fair to say that QAB Systems is a true pioneer when it comes to fencing.

Based in Garelochhead on the west coast of Scotland, QAB was founded in 2013 by Chris Johnstone, a former forester and the founder of landscaping and civil engineering firm WCC. He is also the inventor of a revolutionary approach to installing and maintaining 358 security mesh. When it comes to health, safety, and security, QAB is truly unique.

Fencing News last visited QAB about 18 months ago, and we caught up with them again as they prepare to showcase their range of patented products at the International Security Expo being held at Olympia in London from September 24th to 25th.

Commercial Manager Gary Wood, a former soldier and policeman, explained:

“QAB offers a unique and proven approach to installing mesh fencing systems. We face no competition, as existing approaches often seem Heath Robinsonesque, ad hoc, and tailored to each contractor.”

QAB is currently featured at the MOD Showcase in Larkhill, Wiltshire, giving them a key point of contact with the UK government and governments worldwide.

“We frequently encounter horror stories regarding the safe and secure installation of mesh fencing,” Gary added.

Business has been progressing well, with a growing client base across the UK and Europe, including Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

“Customers like Heras, First Fence, Jackson Fencing, and Zaun have already recognised the need for our products, and the list is expanding as we increase our profile and exposure,” Gary continued.

“The Security Expo provides us with a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate products that have a wide range of applications, including military, data centres, power stations, and other high-security facilities.”

A drive around Garelochhead and the peninsula on Scotland’s west coast, with its many MOD sites, reveals the vast potential for QAB’s access devices. Hundreds of miles of secure mesh fencing are in place, offering a perfect opportunity for QAB’s innovations.

Arguably, the ‘poster boy’ for QAB’s innovations is the lifting bracket, a machine-finished, aluminium device manufactured in the UK. It clamps onto mesh fencing, allowing for safe lifting either manually or by crane.

QAB’s range also includes the EN795B anchor bracket, a 90-degree bracket that enables simple attachment of an alloy access ladder, as well as a multi-purpose bracket.

Gary added,

“All of our products are patented, ‘fit for purpose’, made to the most rigorous standards, fully traceable, and come with comprehensive training. We thoroughly vet every customer to ensure our products don’t end up in the wrong hands.

“If you’re looking for peace of mind—particularly regarding health and safety for mesh fencing installation—QAB ticks all the boxes.”

“We hope that events like the expo in September will boost business in overseas markets, especially in the Middle East, where we are receiving a growing number of enquiries,” Gary concluded.

It’s clear that QAB will continue expanding their range and remain at the forefront of innovation within the fencing industry.
