RECYCLED PLASTIC FENCING SUPPLIER OVERCOMES THE ODDS

There’s an ocean of possibilities for LL Plastic, suppliers of recycled plastic fencing and landscaping products.

Founded in 2018 by Lajos Tolly, the business operates out of a facility in Penicuik near Edinburgh.

It’s been far from plain sailing for any business over the past few years with the impacts of Covid, Brexit and now spiralling costs but Lajos has somehow managed to navigate a safe course and build a thriving firm with a real environmentally friendly ethos.

Lajos, who moved to Scotland from Hungary in 2011, took up the story: “Whilst working as a joiner I got to use recycled plastic products from time to time and I soon recognised its potential. I did some research and couldn’t believe how expensive it was.

“I established a link with a European-based supplier who could provide me with a range of products far more cost effectively. I now regularly use three suppliers from the European continent and pass on the savings to my customers.

“There’s been major challenges and hurdles over the past four years but I’ve managed to grow the business somehow. Last year was tough but I’m now hoping to increase sales within the agricultural sector and build a network of suppliers across the UK.

“We now sell our products all over the UK from the Shetland Isles down to the Channel Islands but having a network of local depots would be the real solution in the long term.

“When LL Plastic first started most of the demand came from homeowners looking for plastic fencing solutions but now I’m getting more and more farmers showing an interest as well as growing demand from commercial organisations, construction firms and the public sector.

“There’s clearly a growing awareness of recycled plastic with folks recognising that it goes a small way to fixing the mess we’ve made of our planet as well as proving to be a more hardy, ground contact solution given the ever growing number of failed timber posts.

“It’s just myself and a colleague working in the business at present but we have plans to recruit as demand picks up. I’m also hoping to ‘invest’ some of my profits into environmental projects such as tree planting as the business progresses,” added Lajos.
