David Musson Fencing began in 1981 when David, seeking to diversify from his arable farm, purchased a pack of 50 12ft fence posts to sell to local farmers. He quickly realised a looking at what else was working for the industry buyer. Thanks to help of wife Jane’s determination and perseverance, the business grew organically from the back of a van. Jane would deliver fencing products in her own car – previously delivering carrots to every farm she could find – and a stand at the Melton Livestock Market, word quickly spread. Over the next 44 years, the company will grow to supplying more than just fencing and the site will expand to five acres.

Throughout the 2000s, the company experienced rapid expansion, with the yard growing to nearly five times its original size. To support this growth, new outdoor storage buildings and office were erected, accommodating an ever-expanding workforce. Since 2017, business has reached record levels, leading to the introduction of a new sales office, warehouse, and a fleet of HGVs. Committed to continued growth, the company continues to invest in its people, creating new roles to support the evolving operation including a sales manager and marketing team.

Their extensive stock of fencing, aggregates, timber, and drainage products ensure immediate collection, making them a reliable choice for a wide range of projects. With a well-organised yard and daily delivery collection, the mechanical loading process and ordering process is efficient and as smooth as possible.

Operations Manager, Tom, explained “We pride ourselves on the level of stock we hold here, enabling us to meet the demands of the contractors and farmers coming to us to get their jobs completed on time. With the expansion of our workforce and yard, we can further grow our level of product availability and the amount we hold. This in turn saves time for our visitors. We plan to continue to enhance the customer experience for both trade and domestic applications. We recently launched a new sales manager with vast experience in the building industry who will also use the capacity of further the product range even further.

“The introduction of Brett Martin drainage products in the shop has been a big hit with contractors, allowing us to be a one-stop shop for full project completion.

“We have massively increased the distance we are travelling to with our new loading into London, and our HGVs going as far as Aberdeen in Scotland.
