Sparsholt College have continuedtheir RHS Chelsea Flower Show medal-winning run with another Silver-Gilt medal.

At an action-packed Press Day celebrities got an exclusive view of the gardens. Famous faces visiting the Sparsholt College stand included Influencer Joe Sugg, Actress Laura Carmichael known, best for her role as Lady Edith in Downton Abbey, and Alex Jones, BBC presenter on The One Show.

Sparsholt College’s 2021/22 garden ‘Home from Home’ celebrates cancer support charity Maggie’s Southampton.

Created in support of Maggie’s Southampton, the garden designed by Garden Design students at Sparsholt College, takes inspiration from Maggie’s recognition that the space around us (whether inside or out) creates an environment which helps people to find the emotional space they need.

‘Home from Home’ reflects the warm and welcoming features of Maggie’s Southampton taking inspiration from, not only the physical aspects of the centre but also the work the centre does since first opening in 2021.

The students were supportedon their stand, by Gilly Howard- Jones, Centre Head at Maggie’s Southampton who discussed the work of the Maggie’s SouthamptonCentre and how the Garden represents their values of an open-door policy and greater mission to provide Cancer Care to the community.

It is Sparsholt College’s fifth Silver-Gilt medal and adds to their collection of nine Gold Medals, six Silver medals and three Bronze medals, alongside five ‘Best in Category’ awards.

Chris Bird, Horticulture Lecturer at Sparsholt College, commented on his medal-winning run with the College: “The students of Sparsholt college have done an amazing job once more. The group have done incredibly well and have worked together to make Maggie’s in Southampton proud. It has been a pleasure to raise awareness of this charity.”
