SIMON HENRY JOINS WPA TEAM
Simon Henry has recently become a Director of the WPA. He will operate as part of the Association’s Management Team with responsibility for WPA Strategy & Membership Development.
Simon previously served as a director of the WPA from 2021 to 2023, representing the timber treatment sector, and brings a wealth of wood industry experience to the organisation. He was a director of TTF / TDUK from 2017 to 2023, working as part of the team that combined the Timber Research and Development Association (TRADA) and the Timber Trades Federation (TTF) to create Timber Development UK (TDUK) in 2022.
Following a progressive career of over 35 years in timber sales, logistics, and business management with Crown Timber, Simon was appointed Managing Director GB and Ireland following the company’s acquisition by Södra Wood.
WPA Chairman Steve Young commented:
“We are delighted that Simon is able to take the lead on strategy and membership development for WPA. He joins us at a time when our industry is under increasing pressure from competing and substitute materials, and his expertise should prove invaluable in helping grow the influence WPA members have in the timber supply chain.”
Simon believes he brings a unique perspective to his new role.
“I have installed and operated 11 timber treatment plants across four operating locations, treating over 200,000m³ every year, using high-pressure and low-pressure systems. However, I have also been responsible for the sales of the treated products to manufacturers, importers, and merchants and ensuring they were supported to use the products correctly,” he says.
“I hope to be able to broaden the appeal of WPA to sectors of the treated wood community that have previously not considered membership.”
