SPECIFY THE BEST OCTOPOST FOR THE JOB

With creosote-treated posts now banned for sale across EU Member States, fencing contractors in England, Wales and Scotland have more choices for purchasing posts.
This choice has just been widened as Loughwood introduce the next generation Octopost to the market. Machined into an octagonal profile providing a flat surface for fixing, aesthetically pleasing with the visual appeal that traditionally-treated creosote posts were renowned for.
With creosote-treated posts now banned for sale across EU Member States, and with the alternative Tanasote® Octopost posts now widely available, Loughwood have decided to extend this offering to include Tanasote® treated posts.
Claire Googeave, Managing Director at Loughwood, explains that the introduction of Tanasote® Octopost has been driven by market demand:
“With us launching the Tanasote® Octopost into Ireland and Northern Ireland following the creosote fencing ban in 2023, our Welsh, Scottish and English partners have commented that this new treatment will be easier for the contractor to install. There’s no lingering creosote smell, plus the posts are drier and easier to handle. So, before the market is forced by legislation to switch away from creosote, we have taken the step to offer what is already a firm alternative to creosote, the Tanasote® Octopost come with the same 25-year guarantee. Whilst the freshly treated Tanasote® Octoposts are emerald green in colour, Claire’s experience from the Irish market is that the colour is actually a point of difference if a stockist says:
‘Once it’s explained that the Tanasote® has all the benefits of creosote-treated posts – no smell, longer-lasting – and still serviceable in every fencing scenario, contractors and installers are happy to switch to Tanasote®.’”
Creosote-treated posts will become more difficult to source and the next generation Octopost offers all the same benefits of creosote with improved properties – and that it ages like creosote, transitioning to the dark brown colour with time, we find more contractors keen to try the next generation Octopost. Plus, Tanasote® Octopost are much more inert material friendly, with a clear odour and risk of oil skin burns from splashes.
